The token allowance scales differently: 2,500 on the monthly plan against 20,000 across the year. Per token, the yearly plan is by a wide margin the cheaper of the two.
Packs make sense only in one case
If the daily conversation limits are comfortable and you only run short on generation, a one-off pack solves it without a subscription — 500 tokens for $15 at the small end, 18,000 for $200 at the large one. If you are hitting chat limits as well, the subscription is the cheaper route.
What cancelling actually does
Premium is an ordinary subscription: cancel from the account at any time and you return to the Starter limits. Characters and conversations stay on the account, and payment runs through 3D Secure, so the card details are handled by the bank rather than stored in the chat.
